They had the ability to be our childhood heroes or scare the bejeesus out of us. (Wombles still make me shiver a little.) But these iconic characters from the colourful world of our TV youth are bringing back some seriously fond memories for us.

1. Bosco

This guy's little pals, the tongue twisters were my FAVOURITE. This was on every day after school in my house. Was this puppet a boy or a girl? Please solve this age-old argument amongst my siblings!

2. Zig and Zag

This deadly duo were the backdrop to my homework most days. They were so irreverent that most of it went over our heads. They still make a comeback every now and again and their fan base continues to grow.

3. Morph

Art Attack was our favourite show as kids. But this little guy was just weird. So bendy and malleable. Freaky.

4. Wanderly Wagon

Give us a flying wagon and a merry band of puppets, and we could be glued to the TV screen for hours! We always looked forward to a magical outing with Rory and the crew – including the likes of Judge and Mr Crow – on the Wanderly Wagon.

5. Captain Birdseye

This jovial guy never failed to put a smile on our faces as kids. Captain Birds Eye would pull up on his ship, happy out, with fish fingers galore for all the kids. Only the best for the Captain's table! Aye, aye, Captain!

And in some further nostalgic news, you can now enter into a competition to win a soft toy of the Captain himself on promotional packs in store. It is in celebration of Captain Birdseye's 50th Anniversary! You can also enter our own competition to win the cuddly toy here - the kids will LOVE it!

6. Annie

What little girl didn't want to be just like this curly-haired scamp? We used to belt out the songs and dramatise the movie (we knew ALL the words). My sisters used to ALWAYS make me play Mollie. She was the cutest though, so I didn't mind that much.

7. Fortycoats & Co.

Who could forget the inimitable Fortycoats & Co.? From hanging out at the Flying Tuck Shop with his buddies Sofar Sogood and Slightly Bonkers, to battling the evil Whilomena and Pickarooney – they don’t make TV like that anymore!

What have we missed? Let us know in the comments and don't forget to pop to your local store and pick up a promotional pack for your chance to get your own famous TV character, Captain Birdseye!
