When you have a family to raise and look after, every aspect of healthcare, education and beyond counts, and it seems there are drastic differences between the systems of countries all over the world.

This is particularly evident in the results of the 2016 Best Countries rankings, which revealed that Sweden is the best country in which to raise a family.

The survey was based on data collected by 16,000 people, with the questions geared toward analysing perceptions of the world’s biggest economies.

Among the attributes taken into consideration when compiling the list were: human rights, family-friendliness, gender equality, happiness, income equality, safety, and well-developed public education and health systems.

It’s no wonder that Sweden topped the list, with its reputation for being incredibly family-friendly. As well as offering free or subsidised prenatal care for mums-to-be, the government also grants 480 days of paid parental leave as well as a significant monthly allowance for children; this is all on top of the low cost of schooling and healthcare.

The top five was completed by Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands and Australia, respectively. Ireland came in at number eight in the list, with the UK following in ninth place.
