Christmas is meant to be a time of cheer and merriment with the entire family gathering around the table to enjoy a hearty feast of turkey and ham, but it never goes according to plan, does it?!

Oh no!

The Irish nation takes Christmas day dinner very seriously but despite the fact that the majority plan and prepare the menu in the first week of December, something is bound to go wrong.

In fact, over-cooking the turkey is the most common cooking disaster on Christmas day followed by something going on fire while lighting the Christmas pudding... we’ve all been there, haven’t we?!

Despite their best efforts to get the Christmas dinner just right, it appears that the Irish have an issue with overcooking food. Over half admit to overdoing the turkey, 37% to overcooking the sprouts and 28% burning the roast potatoes!

A shocking one-in-ten have set something on fire while lighting the Christmas pudding and some have even admitted to dropping the turkey - this is where the 'ten second rule' comes into its own!.

But mums like to ensure that all traditions are adhered to and many still bake a cake or pudding despite the fact that 60% of Irish people don’t like it and just under half eat it out of a sense of duty.

However, it doesn't have to be a disaster thanks to Stork, who compiled the research, and have a whole host of mouth-watering, Great Irish Bake Off-inspired recipes for Christmas.

"We want to show people just how easy creating delicious bakes can be with Stork, that way you can avoid any unnecessary stress on the day,” said Stork’s Alicia Afza.
