Here at MummyPages we love a family movie that everyone can enjoy and RIO is exactly that.
From the makers of the movie ICE AGE comes RIO, a wonderful family movie about Blu (Jesse Eisenberg), a Macaw who lives in Minnesota and who has never learned to fly. When Blu learns that another Macaw lives in Brazil, he travels to Rio de Janeiro to find his mate, Jewel (Anne Hathaway). However, soon after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped. With Jewels help, Blu must learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers and find his way back to his owner.
This is one movie that everyone in the family really is going to love. With loveable characters, stunning art work and an exciting story line RIO has something for everyone. A feast for the eyes, RIO is a beautiful film to look at, with gorgeous colours taking up every inch of the screen. The exotic setting is fully taken advantage of and tropical colours are excitingly splashed across every scene. Every second of this 90 minute movie is visually stunning so even if you are not enjoying the plot (which is highly unlikely), you will still find this a very enjoyable experience.
While this is a great film to look at, the main characters are what really make this movie a treat. Jesse Eisenberg seems like an odd choice with his droll humour and monotonous voice and wouldn’t be an obvious choice of casting as the leading voice-over for a kid’s film. However he is actually quite lively and really brings charm and warmth to this neurotic bird. And of course, Anne Hathaway is a natural at this material.
There are also plenty of laughs along the way with Jemaine Clements’ cockatoo keeping things light and fun and performing some hilarious songs that both adults and children will love.
With glorious colours, a fun plot and a few laughs along the way, RIO is definitely a must-see movie for the entire family.
