It seems like every major franchise is being rebooted in some way, shape, or form these days - including Willy Wonka!

The Roald Dahl classic is being reworked for a what's rumoured to be a Willy Wonka origins story.

According to Collider, a number of familiar faces have been shortlisted to play the eccentric chocolatier, including the ever-so-dreamy Ryan Gosling.

And while we love Gene Wilder in the iconic role, we're always happy to see Ryan get a bit more screen time.

Among the other contenders is Donald Glover, who actually appeared in another recent origins film, Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Donald is also, of course, renowned for rapping under his alter ego Childish Gambino.

His song 'This Is America' shook the music world recently, and the accompanying video is being hailed for its surreal portrayal of issues like racism and gun violence.

His other acting credits include the NBC sitcom Community, critically acclaimed TV show Atlanta (which he also writes for), and Magic Mike XXL.

The 34-year-old is also starring as Simba in the upcoming Lion King film, so he's well-versed at reviving beloved children's characters.

Collider reports that Ezra Miller is also up for the part. He's noted for his roles in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

At 25, he's the youngest of the bunch, but we he does look quite similar to Johnny Depp, who played Willy Wonka in the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The project reportedly comes from screenwriter Simon Rich (one of the youngest writers ever hired by SNL) and Harry Potter producer David Heyman.

We're curious to see which actor they choose and what direction they go in with this rumoured prequel.
