Last night, Ryan Gosling won the award for best actor in a comedy or musical for La La Land at the Golden Globes - an award he rightly deserves.

And while we were delighted to hear he was being recognised for his talent, it was his speech that really made us sit up and look at him in a different light.

The 36-year-old used his time on stage to pay tribute to his wife and mother of his two children, Eva Mendes, thanking her for everything she does for both him and the rest of her family.

“You don’t get to be up here without standing on the shoulders of a mountain,” he said.

“While I was singing and dancing and playing piano … my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother with his battle with cancer.”

The 42-year-old, whose brother passed away in April of last year,  was not at the awards ceremony, instead staying home to look after the couple's children - Esmeralda Amada, two, and Amada Lee, eight months - according to People.

We have to say, THAT speech simply blew us away - and we weren't the only ones it touched:
