Sharon Osbourne is facing some pretty harsh criticism after her comments about Madeleine McCann's parents.

The 63-year-old spoke about the disappearance of the girl on the US chat show The Talk and shared some strong opinions about the tragedy.

Not putting a lot of effort into disguising the reference, Sharon said:

"There was a husband and wife on holiday in Portugal.

"They left their baby in the room sleeping, sleeping while they went to dinner in the restaurant.

"And it is like, 'Oh but we can see everything that is going on'. It is, like, insane."

The comments caused a huge response online with a friend of the McCann family speaking out and calling the star "ignorant".

The friend spoke to The Mirror saying:

"It's very disappointing when someone with such a high profile make this sort of ignorant, ill-informed comment.

"She should think about the effect it could have on Madeleine’s brother and sister, as well as the wider family.

“It’s based on ignorance of the true facts. While she’s entitled to her view she should keep it to herself.”

Madeleine has been missing since May 2007 while the family were on holiday in Portugal.

Scotland Yard say they have still not  given up hope of finding Madeleine who would be 13-years-old now.
