According to emerging reports, a nine-year-old girl has died after falling ill on board a Lufthansa flight from Shanghai to Munich earlier today.

It has been established that the child, who was travelling with her parents, received medical attention after the aircraft was diverted to Russia, but lost her fight for life shortly after the plane touched down at approximately 5am local time.

Confirming the tragic reports to Russian news agency Tass, spokesperson for the West Siberian department of Russia’s Investigative Committee, Yana Strizhova, explained: "The child was not breathing and had no pulse. The doctors tried to bring her back to life but to no avail."

According to a spokesperson for Lufthansa who spoke to the Irish Independent, the child, who is an Italian citizen of Chinese heritage, was pronounced dead by a doctor at Krasnoyarsk airport.
