You asked

Should I worry about my child's weight if she's really active?

If a child is active, there should be no need to worry about her weight as long as she is not in the 85th or 95th percentile of the growth chart.  If she is in the higher percentile for height and weight, but is still active, you should be concerned and encourage her to maintain her level of activity as well as modify her diet.

In most cases, a young child will grow into her weight. If your child seems a bit chubby to you and you are concerned, talk to your paediatrician about steps you can take to make sure she does not gain too much weight. The doctor will probably recommend a few changes to her diet such as skimmed or low fat milk instead of whole milk.

You should also be a role model by demonstrating a healthy diet and a healthy level of activity to your child.
