He may be best known for his stony-faced exterior, but Simon Cowell proved that he is a true gentleman recently when he granted the ultimate wish of three terminally-ill children from Roscommon.

Little Archie Naughton (9), and his five-year-old twin brothers George and Isaac were surprised and delighted recently when they got to meet Simon and co. at the X Factor studios in London.

The three boys have Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy, an untreatable neuromuscular disease, and Simon extended the invitation to the boys after presenting their mother, Paula, with a Pride of Ireland Award for her fundraising for the illness.

Paula and her husband, Padraic, have poured their hearts into their charity, Join Our Boys, which was set up to raise funds for their treatment and research for a cure.

Commenting on what Simon’s amazing gesture meant to her sons, Paula told the Irish Mirror: “It was great. Archie is a big Simon Cowell fan – he calls him ‘cool Simon’ so he was very excited about the whole thing.”

The Naughtons have raised a staggering €850,000 since setting up the charity last year, and with the first target set at €1.2 million (the second, at €6 million, is for a clinical research trial), they need all the help they can get.

With Paula admitting that the family now needs a ‘miracle’, here is how you can help them. Follow this link for the Join Our Boys Facebook page, and this link to make a donation to this very worthy cause.

We wish Archie, Isaac and George all the best, and a lot of luck as they switch on the Christmas lights at Heuston Station on Tuesday, December 1.
