Former Blue Peter presenter Simon Thomas has marked six months since the passing of his wife.

The sudden passing of his wife, Gemma Thomas, came three days after a diagnosis.

Gemma had acute myeloid leukaemia.

To the girl I struggle to live without. Happy Birthday. I will never ever stop loving you xx

The diagnosis is a type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow.

The pair are parents to eight-year-old Ethan.

Taking to Instagram, the broadcaster posted a picture of mother and son.

The heartbreaking caption read:

"Six months already. My heart doesn’t break for myself, it breaks for my boy. Gemma hated even being apart from him for 24hrs - now it’s half a year. Gutted."

The dad-of-one regularly shares the little messages he writes for his son with fans.

He makes the little reminds for Ethan to help them cope with the passing of Gemma.

To mark six months since Gemma gained her wings, the 45-year-old posted the note he made his son.

Six months.

Previously opening up to BBC breakfast, Simon said telling his eight-year-old of his mum's passing was crushing.

It was "the most crushing, brutal thing you will ever have to say to anyone".

"I think, as the weeks have gone on, the reality of daily life, of mum not being around, has begun to hit home."

The best bit about getting home.

Simon continued to explain that "the tears begin to flow" for Ethan when he is in the comfort of his own home.

"He finds it difficult when he's alongside families, where he's with his friends that he's grown up with for the last eight years, and for the most part he's playing like he would have done any other time, but quite often when it's home time or they leave, he goes very quiet and often the tears begin to flow.

"Because he sits there and while he's enjoying himself, the brutal reality of seeing his friends still with a mum, still with a dad, hits home."

The Sky Sports presenter has been nominated for this year's Clas Ohlson celebrity dad of the year.
