They say that you can never truly know what is going on in another person’s life, which is why we should be kind and compassionate to everyone we meet. The following story, which has captured hearts around the world this week, is testament to that.

A mother was left completely overwhelmed recently, when a trip to a restaurant with her family served up an important life lesson and bond for her son.

Sharing her story with the ‘Love What Matters’ Facebook page, the unnamed mother-of-three revealed that it all began when she took her family out for dinner. Her 11-year-old son has a slight stutter, which tends to come out when he orders or talks to new people, but their waiter was nothing but patient with him.

When the waiter walked away, her son was beaming – he had picked up on the waiter’s own stutter and felt encouraged by their exchange. The impact of their meeting would not stop there, however.

As the family got up to leave, the mother was handed a note that had been written by the waiter, named Ian. In an incredibly touching move, Ian reached out to the little boy and the family, and vowed to help them in any way he could.

"I took my three children to an early dinner at Stone Werks restaurant in San Antonio. We were greeted by a kind young...

The note read: “Sudden emotion came over me when I heard your son stutter. I myself stutter, and developed it around his age. I know how hard it can be in the beginning. I had a lot of questions that I didn't ask because I was too afraid. If you or he have any questions, I would be honoured to help make this process easier.”

He left his name and number, and encouraged the family to get in touch.

Sharing photos of the new buddies and a snapshot of the note, the overwhelmed mother admitted that this simple gesture had made all the difference to her son’s life.

“Ian - please know I will be calling. You have shown my son that he is not alone. I am forever grateful for your kindness,” she wrote, in the Facebook post.

It doesn’t get much more inspiring than that, now, does it?

SHARE to remind people of the importance of such simple acts of kindness.
