According to emerging reports, six teenage boys are facing charges of rape following an attack on a 14-year-old girl in Tallaght at the beginning of the year.

The incident, which was the subject of an enormous Garda investigation, took place at approximately 4pm on January 24th in the south Dublin suburb.

It has been established that six youths made voluntary statement to gardaí and insisted that the attack, which occurred in the vicinity of St. Mark's GAA club in Springfield, had not been premeditated.

Commenting on case developments, a senior source reportedly divulged: "This seems to be a situation which got completely out of hand. Statements have been made by all the relevant people involved."

"A file is almost ready to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, but the force's Director of Juvenile Affairs is also reviewing this case," they confirmed. "There has been no need for gardai to make arrests in the case because all the suspects have made full voluntary statements."

The 14-year-old victim was treated for her injuries at the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit in Dublin's Rotunda Hospital.
