Giving children a gentle nudge out of their comfort zones is one thing, but scaring them half to death and placing them in danger is another.

Social media has recoiled in horror this week, over a video of terrified Malaysian schoolgirls being forced to navigate a water-filled snake-pit - as part of a ‘team-building exercise’.

According to reports, the girls – all aged between 10 and 12 years – were on a confidence-building day at a camp when they were forced to complete the ‘task’.

The footage shows instructors laughing as the girls scream and cry in fear, even spraying the poor mites with a hose and throwing pythons (non-venomous, apparently) at them as they try to make it across the pit.

The release of the video was met with outrage, and the camp in question has been shut down in response. A number of the camp's coaches and assistants have also been suspended.

A statement issued by local authorities read: “The camp’s coordinators had modelled the exercise on training videos found on YouTube. This incident cannot be taken lightly.”

Twitter was a hive of criticism following the release of the video, with angry tweeters branding the exercise ‘so wrong’.

Those poor little children.
