The next time someone gives you a dirty look for breastfeeding in public, remind them that you have a very famous and powerful ally – the Pope, himself, no less!
Pope Francis has come in for great praise this weekend, for encouraging mums worshipping at the Sistine Chapel to breastfeed their hungry babies if they need to, during mass.
The Pontifex made the comments during a baptising ceremony in the famous chapel, after hearing the cries of a baby.
The AFP quotes the Pope as saying: “The ceremony is a little long, someone’s crying because he’s hungry. That’s the way it is.”
“You mothers, go ahead and breastfeed, without fear. Just like the Virgin Mary nursed Jesus.”
Given how contentious the topic of public breastfeeding is (we know, we know), these comments are undoubtedly welcome to mums all over the world.
Of course, this isn’t the first time the Pope has publicly pledged his support for breastfeeding mums.
“You mothers give your children milk and even now, if they cry because they are hungry, breastfeed them; don’t worry,” he said at a similar ceremony last year.
More of this, please!
