When their 94-year-old mother died earlier this month, and the Stocks children began putting her affairs in order, they quickly realised that no ordinary obituary would do justice to this incredible woman.

Sandy Stocks decided to pen an obituary for mum Mary Patricia which would accurately reflect her life – as well as her wonderfully quirky habits.

The amazing obituary has now gone viral around the world since being published, and we can see exactly why.

Describing Mary Patricia’s “school of hard knocks” parenting style, Sandy wrote: “Pat was well-known for her patience, not holding back her opinion and a knack for telling it like it is.”

Adding that she left behind “a lot of stuff”, Sandy joked: “If you’re looking for 2 extremely large TVs from the ‘90s, a large ceramic stork (we think) umbrella/ cane stand, a toaster oven (slightly used) or even a 2001 Oldsmobile with a spoiler (she loved putting the pedal to the metal)…you should wait the appropriate amount of time and get in touch. Tomorrow would be fine.”

Elsewhere, Sandy paid tribute to Mary Patricia’s unique culinary skills.

Revealing how Mary Patricia had a knack for overcooking her meals, Sandy wrote: “We would sit there and chew and chew…That’s where we came up with that ‘Stocks Diet’ – about coughing and throwing up into your napkin and hiding it between your legs.”

He goes on to pay tribute to a wonderful mother who had a wicked sense of humour, who loved Christmas and drove up until two months before she passed away.

When asked how he thought Mary Patricia might respond to his hilarious tribute to her, Sandy told local media: “I think she would appreciate it.”
