A store in Colorado has been forced to apologise to a family this week, after they were left hurt and disappointed by Santa Claus’ attitude towards their ill son.

Megan Self publicly slammed the staff at Bass Pro, after their Santa refused to sit and pose for a traditional photo with their sick 13-month-old boy.

Little Caleb Self suffers from mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, a genetic brain and muscle disorder, and his mother Megan was looking forward to marking the holidays with a special and traditional visit to Santa.

However, Megan told local media that after taking Caleb off of his breathing apparatus and medical equipment at the top of the line, Santa posed for one standing photo and walked away.

The disappointed mum told local media: “We've been through a lot this year, physically, mentally, emotionally, financially and everything. This was basically the icing on the cake.”

While some people have suggested that Santa may have been worried about hurting Caleb, others believe that he could have handled the incident with more sensitivity.

Speaking out after the story went viral online, a spokesman for Bass Pro admitted that the incident “is not something we feel great about”. They proceeded to apologise to the family, and they also offered them a gift certificate and a free photo session. Mum Megan politely turned them down however, and instead suggested that they donate them to charity.
