When it comes to road safety, the same rules apply at every age as, regardless of the various technological advancements, the very same dangers still exist.

With social media and tech gadgets such integral parts of our daily lives, texting while driving is one of the biggest problems facing drivers who have a particular fondness for their mobile phones.

Experts recently launched an investigation into what makes young drivers look at their phones while they are driving, and the results are certainly eyebrow-raising.

The study results, published this week, show that while many teens chance a glance at their phones because they are afraid they will ‘miss out’ on something going on with their peers, over half of those surveyed (55%) do so because they feel the need to respond to their parents.

The study’s findings showed that teens believe their parents need immediate replies, even more so than their best friends. However, it seems that the parents aren’t in agreement here, with 58% of mums and dads surveyed admitting that they don’t require an immediate response.

This is particularly alarming considering the amount of accidents and fatal crashes that occur while a driver is distracted by their phone or another gadget.
