Not surprisingly, it seems that nothing puts a smile on our faces like a bit of unexpected sunshine.

A new survey revealed that the happiest family moment for the majority of Irish adults is hot weather that takes us by surprise (72%).

Conducted by Cadbury Dairy Milk Egg ‘n’ Spoon, as part of their Share ‘n’ Moments of Joy campaign, the survey also highlights some very interesting discoveries about our happiest childhood memories.

Nearly one in five of Irish adults can’t wait to enjoy sand covered ham and cheese sandwiches on the beach in summer and the most stereotypical childhood moment for more than a third brings us back to awkwardness of changing into our swimming togs under a towel on the beach.

It is unsurprising that we have such detailed childhood memories, since the findings from this survey revealed that Irish people have long  memories.

The average Irish adult remembers their earliest childhood memory from as young as four, with school days, family holidays and the beach memories the most popular.

As far as heart-warming moments go, over a third of Irish adults said their most heart-warming family moment was watching Ireland at the World Cup Italia in 1990.

And of course, half of adults say that you know you’re an Irish family when you’re being dragged to mass on Sunday!
