From controversial breastfeeding policies to behaviour towards children, restaurants around the world have been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent times.

One such restaurant is Flynn’s, an Australian establishment that was criticised by a family after a run-in last month.

Owner Liam found himself at the centre of unwanted attention after asking a couple to remove their two-year-old child, who had been crying in the restaurant for ten minutes.

In response, Liam decided to introduce an ‘under-sevens’ ban, prohibiting any children under the age of seven from dining in Flynn’s.

Announcing the ban on Facebook, Liam wrote: “The feedback from our diners regarding screaming babies have been nothing but wholly negative and in the interest of their wishes, we have decided to introduce this policy and it will stand.”

While many reacted angrily to what they consider to be a ‘discriminatory’ rule, the ban has yielded some surprising results.

According to Liam, traffic in to the restaurant has significantly increased since the news of the ban went viral.

“Local people are voting with their feet. The support’s been overwhelming. We have a lot of people who usually come in a couple times a year who have come in to show their support,” Liam told local media this week.
