While the introduction of the internet and the advent of social media brought with it many advantages in recent years, it is also apparently responsible for shortening the younger generation's childhood and dashing their Christmas dreams.

According to a recent study, the little people in our lives are not being afforded the same childhoods enjoyed by us and their older relatives, especially when it comes to the magic of Christmas.

While we all know for certain that Santa Claus does indeed exist, it appears there exist a few people who simply haven't been touched by the magic of the festive season and insist on making questionable claims online.

No matter how often we remind our children that we simply aren't capable of providing them with the same Christmas surprises as that all-important man in the North Pole, some of our little ones can find themselves swayed by tweets, headlines and cartoons which they stumble across online.

According to the research, more than 10% of respondents insisted that silly internet rumours put the kybosh on their child's Christmas, with 44% of those blaming a browser search and almost 30% specifically attributing posts on social media for the lack of trust in Father Christmas.

Of the 2,000 parents surveyed for the poll, many asserted that their child's lack of trust in Santa began at approxmately 7.25 years of age.

Well, all we know is that Santa Claus most certainly exists and we can't wait to hear his sleigh bells on our roof soon!
