A teenager has been charged with the murder of seven-year-old Katie Rough, who was found stabbed in York on Monday.

The unidentified teen, who has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, is due to answer to the charges at York magistrate’s court tomorrow.

Katie was found seriously injured on a playing field in Woodthorpe earlier this week. The tot was rushed to hospital, but sadly, she died shortly after from her injuries.

According to reports, it is believed that Katie was stabbed twice.

Authorities were called to the scene after locals discovered Katie’s mum, Alison, crying and calling for help for her daughter.

While the principal of Katie’s school, Westfield Primary School, has paid tribute to the ‘kind and thoughtful’ child, a police rep has spoken of the Rough family’s ‘devastation’.

“Katie’s family are devastated by this tragic event and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this extremely distressing time,” said a member of the force.
