We have been yearning for The Crown to return to our screens all year long. Netflix may be full of gripping documentaries, heartwarming romantic comedies and hilarious sitcoms, but we can’t help but long for the royal drama series to return.

The first two seasons of the show were addictive. We must admit we flew through all 20 episodes, something we now regret. We wish we paced ourselves, but the show is just so interesting.

Filming of season three started this summer, but rumour has it we won’t be tuning into season three until the new year, but fear not, the shows producers have been teasing us with plenty of photos of the new cast.

The new cast features Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Daniels.

Olivia Colman will play Queen Elizabeth II during the 1970s, with Tobias Menzies starring as a middle-aged Prince Philip.

The actor has big shoes to fill after Matt Smith, who played the Duke of Edinburgh during season one and two, received an Emmy nominee for his role in the show.

The show released the first look at Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip this morning and we’re convinced he is the perfect replacement.

The resemblance between the actor and Prince Philip is uncanny. The photo simply captioned “Ambition”, shows the Duke gazing out the window at Buckingham Palace.

The upcoming season is said to be set during the 1970s and will feature storylines including the death of the Duke of Windsor and the breakdown of Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones relationship.

We cannot wait for The Crown to return. No official release date has been confirmed, but we’ve got a feeling a teaser trailer will be dropped in the coming weeks.
