A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh has been named as the most-loved children’s book of the past 150 years.

The title topped a poll of 2,000 adults, while Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll came in second place.

The winning book was published in 1926 and has been a staple on many children’s book shelves ever since. The series was also translated to the TV screen where it has been just as popular.

The poll was conducted by YouGov in conjunction with Story Time, a reading initiative supported by Barnardo’s and John Lewis that aims to promote reading and support vulnerable children across the UK.

The top ten best-loved children’s books are as follows:
  1. Winnie-the-Pooh – AA Milne (1926)
  2. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – Lewis Carroll (1865)
  3. The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Eric Carle (1969)
