Volkswagen Ireland has launched their brand new, spacious city car, the Volkswagen up! and as part of the launch they are sponsoring RTÉ’s show ‘The Voice of Ireland’. Brian Kennedy, Kian Egan, Sharon Corr and the gorgeous Bressie (one of the reasons we are loving the show) all took a break from their busy coaching schedules to launch the car.

The new Volkswagen up! has been shortlisted for European Car of the Year and has already been a massive hit in its native Germany. The car is ideal for city driving offering maximum space on a minimal footprint. Although this is one of the smallest four-seater cars on the market, there is lots of space inside (as the wonderfully tall Bressie will tell you). The new up! is offered in three trim grades, so there is an up! to suit everyone’s budget:
  • Take up! is the entry-level car
  • Move up! is the comfort-oriented model
  • High up! is the top version
The up! is the most efficient petrol model in the Volkswagen family with a 1.0 litre 75bhp petrol engine. It also features, as standard, an important new safety technology, the City Emergency Braking system. This system is automatically active at speeds under 30km/h and uses a laser sensor to detect the risk of an impending collision. Depending on the speed and situation, City Emergency Braking can reduce accident severity by initiating automatic brake interventions.

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) is also as standard on the new model, proving Volkswagen’s commitment to safety. The car has already been awarded five-stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests.

The interior of the car is colourful, and the layout is well-organised with clever details and a high level of quality.

The up! is being launched in Ireland at a starting price of €10,995 for the Take up! grade, with the Move up! costing €11,895 and the High up! costing €12,895. Not only that but this car comes with a fantastic finance offer, so customers can own their own up! for just €99 per month through Volkswagen Bank.
