In November 2014, Karen and Stephen Doran’s son, Jude, was stillborn at 40- plus weeks.

Karen first became aware of a problem a few days after her due date and decided to go into hospital to make sure everything was ok.

Unfortunately everything wasn’t ok and Karen was told the terrible news that she had lost her son.

After a nine hour labour, Jude was born.

Stephen told Wales Online: “As I held my baby son for the first time, I felt like the proudest father in the world.”

“Despite us knowing that Jude will never open his eyes, nothing can ever take that moment away from me.”

Stephen, who is a student advisor at the University of South Wales, decided after the event that he wanted to raise money for Tommy’s which specialises in medical research into the causes of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

Stephen, who is originally from Dublin and now lives in Llantrisant, has been taking part in fundraising events and fitness challenges for the last year in a bid to raise funds for the charity.

Taking part in St David’s Day 10km run in Cardiff, the Welsh Half Marathon in Tenby and the Dublin Marathon, Stephens charitable events have known no boundaries.

And now he is about to take part in the final fitness challenge.

After well surpassing his original target of £12,000, Stephen is now hoping to bust passed the £13,000 mark.

The 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon will mark the end of this amazing dad’s journey and he is so delighted with his accomplishments.

“So many people donate generously for charities throughout the year, but if any good can come of this tragedy, and in memory of our beautiful baby boy Jude, I will be so grateful for any help to raise much needed funds to assist Tommy’s with their research.” He said.

Devina Ganas, community fundraising manager at Tommy’s, said of Stephens charitable efforts: “We are truly blown away by the support he has generated, raising over £12,000 and much-needed awareness.”

Tommy’s are very grateful for all that Stephen has done and look forward to cheering him on at the Virgin London Marathon 2016.”
