For any of us that have been through the stress and worry of having a child in hospital then you will know far too well how a simple gesture can make a big difference.

Well, that’s exactly what happened when nine-year-old Ryan went into hospital for his eighth surgery.

In a sweet picture that’s gone viral, Dr Travis Groth can be seen performing a surgery on Ryan’s favourite toy - a teddy bear of Mike from Monsters Inc.

Taking to Facebook to share the photo, the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin were clearly very proud of their staff saying:

"Check out this picture from our operating room. After performing surgery on a young boy, Dr. Groth made the extra effort to perform an additional surgery on the boy's best friend — his stuffed animal.

“Our doctors, nurses and staff go out of their way to make sure every child feels comfortable and safe.

“Whether it’s stitching up their favourite toy or dressing up as their favourite character, we know how to make children feel better."

The post has had almost 15,000 reactions with users praising Dr Groth for his kind gesture.

The teddy bear that accompanies Ryan into all of his surgeries is said to be doing well with a spokesperson saying:

“Both Ryan and Mike are recovering well at home.”

This isn't the first time staff members at the hospital have been so generous. Many parents took to Facebook to share their similar stories.
