At just four years old, Suzie McCash is being hailed a hero by family, friends and even the police.

The four-year-old has received an award from local police after she saved her mother’s life after she collapsed and stopped breathing.

Suzie acted quickly and dialled 999 when her mother, Rowena had a respiratory arrest in the home after an allergic reaction.

Rowena injected herself twice with an EpiPen in an effort to ease her breathing but was unsuccessful.

The audio recording of Suzie’s call to the police has been released and the brave girl can be heard describing her mother’s condition.

“Mummy hasn’t answered yet, I don’t know why, but she hasn’t answered yet.

“She’s just sitting on the sofa doing nothing.”

With paramedics on the way, Suzie tells the operator that she “can’t really reach the door lock but I’ll have a go.”

Northumbria Police superintendent, Nicola Musgrove said of Suzie’s bravery:

“Suzie’s mum stopped breathing altogether but paramedics were able to stabilise her.

“Had it not been for the quick actions of Suzie she would undoubtedly have died.

“She rang 999, knocked on a neighbour’s door and opened the front door for the police officers and paramedics.

“She is a very brave little girl.”

Rowena made a full recovery and was released from the hospital the next day.
