There’s a reason why we’re all so heartwarmed by ‘young love’ – its sweet innocence never fails to bring a smile to our faces, especially where tiny little ones are involved.

This has certainly turned out to be the case for Cole and Sherri, two 10-year-olds from Texas who have captured hearts around the world with their story.

Sherri is a keen soccer player, but disaster struck for her recently when she tore her cruciate ligament during a match.

With his ‘girlfriend’ facing into surgery, the very lovely Cole wanted to do something special to let her know that he was thinking of her. So, the adorable little boy wrote her a heartfelt letter, which he presented to her along with a teddy-bear and a cookie cake.

Cole’s cousin, Gabriella, was totally moved by his gesture, and she took to Twitter to share a snapshot of the letter along with some sweet photos.

The letter reads:

Dear Sherri,

I’m so sorry that you broke your knee. I will miss watching you play soccer and I’m sorry that you won’t be able to play softball for a while. But I know you will heal quickly, and I will get to watch you play again soon. Although you can’t play sports, you still make my day when I get to see your beautiful smile.

God has a plan for all of us and sometimes it’s hard for us to understand why thing[s] happen to us. My dad tells me that God only allows things to happen that He knows we can handle. You are a pretty, nice, funny, and strong girl that is also a good friend. You will get through this quickly.

Please let me know how I can help during your recovery. I hope you recover fast and get well soon.

Your friend,
Cole

It didn’t take long for Gabriella’s post to go viral across social media, and even national news outlets are reporting on the story of this truly beautiful friendship.

We bet Sherri is feeling better already!
