With communions becoming quite the lucrative affair for children, they often have a plan in mind for their new fortune.

With game consoles, phones and tablets usually the product of their wealth, we were touched when we saw this story of Eve Geoghegan and how she decided to spend her money.

Eve recently had her first Holy Communion in Dublin and did something very selfless with the money she received from family and friends.

The little girls with the help of her mum, Niamh, spent a day handing out sandwiches, crisps, bars, fruit and water to homeless people all over the city.

All paid for with Eve’s communion money, the pair spent a few hours making up sandwiches for those in need.

Proud mum Niamh posted on Facebook pictures of the little girl and her enormous generosity.

“Very proud mammy today as I helped this young lady use communion money to make rolls, buy crisps, bars, fruit and water and walked around town as she approached homeless people and asked if they’d like something to eat.

"I rarely cry but the tears of pride were streaming down my face”

With the days of €20 in a card well and truly in the past, most communion cards now contain upwards of €50.

This can lead to huge earnings for primary school kids, including Eve.

And it looks like she has caught the charitable bug now as mum predicts this is only the first of many good deeds her daughter will do.

“She is so proud of herself and I think she’d going to make it a regular thing.”
