It can be a nightmare trying to pick the right birthday present for a child.

When their interests change ten times a day, how are we meant to know what’s on their wish-list?

Well, if you were invited to this birthday party you wouldn’t have had that worry.

These organised parents decided to send out their one-year-old son’s birthday invitations with very clear instructions as to what to buy him.

Sharing the image on Imgur, this family member was pretty shocked with the specifications she found in the email.

With a limit of “two gifts per household” and only from “grandparents and their direct uncle/aunt” among the list of demands from the parents, this invite is nothing if not straight forward.

Most demanding 1st birthday invite ever

While all of this verges on the line between helpful and controlling it’s the next part of the email that pushes this invite straight into shocking territory.

When it comes to picking a present not on the list, these parents ask that “if you choose to get a gift that isn’t on the list, anytime regardless of birthdays or holidays, please be sure to include the receipt going forward. When we return items without receipts we only get 50% of the value, so it's like throwing money away”.

And to drain every last drop of humour from the email, these parents warned of the consequences some presents have.

“Please refrain from any personalised gifts that would be used outside of the house. Clothing with names is the number one thing that leads to kidnapping so we don’t need to broadcast their name on clothing or toys.”

And after reading that jaw-dropping invite, this family member was reassured that anther would be coming shortly... from the one-year-old.

“A formal invite from our son will be arriving in your mailbox soon.”

The email was captioned “most demanding 1st birthday invite ever,” and has been viewed nearly 4.5 million times.
