Tender Education and Arts in the UK have created the #StandUpWorldCup campaign to highlight the statistics surrounding domestic abuse and World Cup matches.
 
The powerful advert shows an anxious woman watching England’s football match and is eager like any football fan for the team to win.
 
But towards the end of the advert it soon becomes apparent why the woman badly wants her partner's team to win.
 
The advert ends with statistics from Lancaster University revealing that domestic violence rises 38% in some homes when their national team is knocked out.
 
The study showed how football tournaments affects domestic violence, researchers found that: “A match day trend showed the risk of domestic abuse rose by 26 percent when the English national team won or drew, and a 38 percent increase when the national team lost.”
