The mother of a little girl who sustained considerable injury after trapping her finger in a supermarket travelator has spoken out in the wake of the incident.

Lauren Delaney, whose toddler had gone grocery shopping with her grandmother Elaine, was devastated to learn that her daughter, Marley, has been hospitalised after stumbling on a travelator.

Opening up about the incident, Lauren explained: "I wasn’t with them, but my mum thinks Marley has gone to run up the travelator that was coming down and she’s stumbled and fallen, and trapped her little finger at the bottom."

According to The Mirror, 18-month-old Marley was rushed to the Royal Blackburn hospital having been cut out by emergency servoces before ultimately being transferred to a unit in Preston where she underwent surgery.

Elaborating on the extent of her daughter's injuries, 27-year-old Lauren said: "They took her into theatre and when she came out and had come round, they said it was worse than they first thought."

"It wasn’t a fracture, the bone was completely gone, she has lost the bone and the tendon on her little finger on her right hand," Lauren continued as she reflected on the incident she dubbed a "freak accident".

Expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received since the incident, Lauren said: "I want to thank the people from the fire brigade, the paramedics and everyone who has left cards, flowers and presents for Marley, people I don’t even know, total strangers have been messaging me on Facebook asking how she is."

We're wishing brave little Marley all the best with her recovery.
