The death of a one-year-old boy has occurred after his pram was hit by a car in Kensington, West London last night.

According to The Independent, the infant was in the care of his mother outside Hyde Park when his pram collided with a silver Toyota Prius at approximately 6.10 pm.

Having been transferred to a central London hospital by ambulance, the infant, who has yet to be formally identified, tragically lost his fight for life four hours after arrival.

It has been established that the driver of the vehicle at the centre of the incident stopped at the scene and has been helping police officials with their inquiries, but has not been arrested.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, a witness offered a possible insight into the tragedy, explaining: "I don’t know if the baby rolled forwards or backwards but the car hit them. Someone said they heard screaming."

It is understood that the Met’s Serious Collisions Investigations Unit is currently handling the case, and a post mortem is due to be conducted.
