Our thoughts and prayers are with a Dublin family this evening, upon the devastating news that a young boy has lost his life in a tragic road traffic accident.

According to various reports, the as-yet-unnamed 12-year-old lost his life when the pony and trap he was travelling in collided with a truck on St Cuthbert’s Road in Clondalkin.

The incident is said to have taken place shortly before 2pm this afternoon, with emergency services pronouncing the young boy dead at the scene. It is believed that two other boys of unspecified ages were also travelling in the pony and trap at the time of the accident, but both are said to be unharmed.

Forensics are on the scene this evening, and an investigation into the incident is now underway. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information is asked to get in touch with Clondalkin Garda Station on 01-6667600. Alternatively, you can contact your local garda station.

Our hearts go out to this boy’s family and all affected by today’s tragedy.
