Tragedy has struck this weekend, following a school bus crash that has killed at least 16 people.

The bus is said to have been carrying schoolchildren from Hungary through Italy, when it struck a roadside column, near Verona.

According to local authorities, there were at least 50 people on board, many of whom were thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

Of the passengers – mostly teenage boys aged 14 to 18, as well as some teachers and parents – around 39 are said to have been injured. ‘Dozens’ are now receiving treatment in hospital.

The bus reportedly burst into flames after the crash, the cause of which is still unknown.

Emergency services arrived on the scene shortly after to transport the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities are said to be waiting for the green light to analyse the bus wreckage.
