Travelling with kids can be tough, and even more so when you are going away without another adult. Whether you are a single parent, enjoying quality time with your child, or are travelling to meet family, there are a number of ways you can make the journey fun, relaxing and enjoyable for all of you:

Take your time
There is no point rushing around leaving everything to the last minute. If you are travelling alone with the kids you will need to plan your schedule accordingly – and give yourself a little bit more time to get things ready.

Bring toys
If the kids are quite small you should pack lots of colouring books, and things to play with. For older children, bring music books and download apps on your phone that will keep them happy. Don't foget magazines for you too.

Less is more
If you struggle to lug around your case at the best of times, now that it’s just you it’s going to be that bit harder. Remember to pack light and try, if possible, to keep the number of bags you are bringing to just one or two.

Be organised
Keep passports and any necessary travel documents in a folder together at the top of your handbag. This way they will be easy to get at and you won’t be frantically looking for them when it comes to check in.

Get there early
Whether you are travelling by plane, train or boat, it is important you get there early, especially if you are used to someone else helping you. Things always move a little slower when you are bringing kids and even more when you are doing all the work on your own.
