Friends, local councillors and lovers of the arts in Ireland have paid tribute to Gemma Carcaterra, Director of Glór Ennis musical centre, who sadly passed away this week.

The news was confirmed in a statement by Glór Ennis, revealing that the 42-year-old passed away from a ‘sudden illness’ just five months after giving birth to triplets. She was still on maternity leave from her role, which she held for just over five years.

According to a report in the Irish Mirror, Ms Carcaterra – who is originally from Wolverhampton in the UK – was rushed to hospital in Limerick this week after falling ill. Tragically, she passed away on Thursday.

In the statement, Glór Ennis sent their condolences to Ms Carcaterra’s family, writing: “We extend our deepest sympathies to Gemma’s husband Colm, her three children Ava, Ríona and Coen, to her parents Rosa and Rob, and her brother James”.

Tributes have also poured in from members of the community, with Glór board member and local councillor Mary Howard describing the late mother as “a very special lady”.

Our hearts go out to Ms Carcaterra’s family at this most difficult time.
