Packing your child off to school should not be accompanied by a feeling of dread, but our thoughts are with two communities today over the following report.

It has been revealed that two schools in Sydney, Australia are ‘in lockdown’ today due to a terror threat contained in an email.

Authorities confirmed that counter-terrorism police have been sent out to East Hills Boys High School in Panania, and Sir Joseph Banks High School in Revesby.

While police have not released details of the threats or the suspected organisation or individuals involved, the lock-out is expected to be held until the end of the day.

A spokeswoman told local media: “Police will investigate the situation, and police are reminding members of the public that it is an offence to post threatening or violence-inciting messages on social media.”

In a direct message to worried parents, the NSW Department of Education released a statement urging them to remain calm.

“Parents contacting the school are being told their children are safe but they can collect them if they want to. Each school will be holding an assembly at midday to inform students about the situation,” the statement read.

We are thinking of all those affected by today’s incident.
