Two teenage boys have been arrested following a blaze in Co. Louth overnight which has reduced the Paper Dawn factory to ashes.

Gardaí investigating the suspected arson attack in Drogheda have arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old youth in connection with the incident.

According to emerging reports, the younger of the two youths was arrested in close proximity to the scene of the blaze, but has since been released without charge.

Meanwhile, it has been established that the 17-year-old suspect was arrested shortly before 12pm today and is being questioned at Dundalk Garda Station.

The Dawn Paper factory is located on the Donore Road in Droghheda and has been manufacturing industrial cleaning paper and domestic tissue since 1988.

While it is understood fire crew will continue to dowse the blaze, it is expected to remain smouldering for a number of days.

There are no reports of any casualties.
