A five year old girl was killed when a sliding gate fell on top of her as she played with her two siblings and her cousins on Monday evening.

Disney's Frozen-loving Sienna Joyce was near her home in Ashbourne when the shocking accident occurred. She suffered serious head injuries, the Garda Press Office told MummyPages.ie, and afterwards she was taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital.

Sadly, her injuries were extensive and medics were unable to save her. Her parents David and Marie are now understandably heartbroken. They have two other children - a boy, Taigh, and another girl, Sicily.

Sienna had been attending St Margaret's NS in Finglas, according to the Irish Daily Star, and had just finished Junior Infants.

Her family have been hit by tragedy before: in 2012 her four-year-old cousin drowned in the National Aquatic Centre. Logan Joyce was found by a member of the public floating face down in the ‘lazy river’ section of the attraction. He was taken to Connolly Hospital, reported irishtimes.com, where he was pronounced dead.

Martin Collins, a spokesman from Pavee Point, an organisation which representers Ireland's Travelling community, told the Irish Daily Star today that Sienna was "bright, bubbly and full of energy".

He added: "She was playing with her brothers and sisters and her cousins... The family are devastated and in a state of shock as well and it will be a long time, if ever, when they come to terms with this".

Also speaking to the Star, Sienna's cousin Kellie stated: "She was beautiful, cherished and adored by everyone who knew her.

"Her parents are completely heartbroken. I've never seen anything sadder in my life."

Kellie furthermore paid tribute to her cousin on Facebook - with one status asking others to change their profile picture to a character from the little girl's favourite film, Frozen. Another post she shared described Sienna as "beautiful, clever" and "taken way too soon".

The girl's funeral takes place today, and her young friends will be wearing Frozen costumes in her honour.

The case has now been referred to the Coroner's office, and gardaí say they are treating the incident as "a tragic accident".
