A community in Northern Ireland is in mourning today following the tragic death of a toddler in his home in Cloughmills, Co. Antrim.

According to emerging reports, two-year-old, Archie Tafts, died after a chest of drawers fell on top of him at his family home in an incident which the PSNI is treating as 'accidental'.

Despite being rushed to hospital following the devastating incident, the child later died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

Commenting on the heartbreaking event, a spokeswoman for the PSNI asserted: "As would be normal procedure with any sudden death, a report will be prepared for the information of the coroner."

Paying tribute to the toddler, Heather Loughridge of the Reformed Presbyterian Church mothers and toddlers group of which Archie was a member, said: "He was a lovely, smiley wee fellow. He always took part in the singing and dancing and really enjoyed it."

Reflecting on the impact the shocking incident will have on many, she told the BBC News: "When you hear these things, it puts everything else into perspective. It’s hard for people to take in."

The family have thanked the public for their support and have requested privacy as they grieve the loss of their little boy.

Our thoughts are with them today.
