Having been flown from the small Moroccan town in which he was from in order to undergo life-changing surgery in Melbourne, three-year-old Yahya El Jabaly has captivated the Australian public.

The story of the little boy, who was born without eyes, a nose or an upper jaw, came to the attention of Fatima Baraka, a breast cancer survivor, via Facebook.

Feeling compelled to help the little boy, who was born with a condition which stopped his facial bones fusing together, and who lived close to where Fatima herself had grown up, the woman sought the expertise of Australian surgeon, Tony Holmes.

Travelling to Moroco from Melbourne, Fatima met Yahya and his family, and insisted that the child, who was incapable of speech as a result of his disfigurement, could, despite the severity of his condition,  be helped.

Undergoing 18 hours of operations at the hands of a team of skilled surgeons, the brave Yahya eventually emerged from the theatre with a newly formed face, much to the joy of his overwhelmed friends and family.

Opening up in the aftermath of their son's operation, Yahya's father told Channel Seven's Sunday Night; "It's a huge joy, a huge happiness to see my son in such a situation."

Having offered their services free of charge, medical professionals were overjoyed to see the reaction of Yayha's parents, with Dr. Holmes saying: "When they first saw him you could just tell that they were just stunned and so happy."

Speaking out following Yahya's surgery, Faitma, the woman who helped turn the dream into a reality, said: "I just can't believe what he's been through and how he just comes out and gets better and better every time. He looks like a normal little boy."

Admitting the severity of Yahya's condition initially left her 'horrified', Fatima is keen to sing the little boy's praises, gushing: "He's a very smart little kid, he's got so much potential, there's no reason for him not to have a good, healthy bright future."

Yahya's is currently waiting further surgery on his nose and is in the process of learning to walk.

Wishing the incredibly brave and beautiful Yahya all the best with the rest of his journey.
