A joint funeral service is due to be held in Co. Derry later today for the five victims of Sunday's drowning tragedy in Co. Donegal.

Sean Mc Grotty, his two sons, Mark and Evan, their grandmother Ruth Daniels and her daughter Jodie Lee Daniels perished after the car they were travelling in lost grip on Buncrana pier and plunged into the waters of Lough Swilly in the popular picturesque town at the weekend.

While horrified witnesses raised the alarm and a heroic passerby managed to rescue a four-month-old baby who was also trapped within the sinking vehicle, emergency services were unable to save the five remaining family members.

Having lost her mother, sister, partner and two sons in a tragedy which sent shockwaves throughout the UK and Ireland this week, the infant's mother, Louise, insists her daughter Rionaghac-Ann has given her a reason to live.

It is understood that the joint funeral will take place in the Holy Family Church in Ballymagroarty Co. Derry this afternoon.

Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the five victims today.
