The image of Omran Daqneesh sitting in an ambulance in Syria, covered in blood and dust, has not been forgotten – and another tot has added their face to the devastating narrative of the chaos there.

Footage recorded after a bombing in the city of Idlib has captured the rescue of a one-month-old baby from the rubble of an apartment building.

The tot was reportedly in a fourth floor flat when a bomb struck, and it took two hours for rescuers to pull the child from the wreckage.

It was determined volunteer Abu Kifah who pulled the baby free, and he could not hide or control his emotions as he entered the ambulance.

Cradling the child in his arms, Abu is seen breaking down in tears as fellow volunteers rush to wipe the dust and blood from the baby’s face and head.

Needless to say, the video has had a profound impact on people all over the world.

Indeed, BBC news presenter Kate Silverton was reduced to tears live on air as she covered the story in an evening bulletin on Friday.

“To all of you sending thoughts – thank you – no words really – [it’s] my job to be inscrutable and impartial, but I am also human,” she tweeted, after the segment.
