The amount of different cosmetic types and products out there can be confusing. In this article we will explain some common questions about lip liner, to hopefully make things a little clearer and help you decide if it’s something you want to consider using.
Firstly, let’s look at what lip liner is and what it is used for. It is usually in pencil form and looks similar to eyeliner. The purpose of lip liner is to define the edge of your lips with a border and to give you a guide within which to apply your lipstick.
If you are totally new to lip liner, it is recommended to choose neutral or natural liner colours to begin with, this will give you a natural lip look. When picking out a lipstick, opt for one that closely matches the colour of your liner. When you get more comfortable applying liner then you should experiment using darker liner and lighter lip colours together.
How do you apply lip liner?
- Apply your foundation just over your natural lip line; this will give the lip liner it a bit more staying power.
- Get up close to the mirror and part your lips slightly to clearly see your natural lip line.
- If your lips are already nice and full, apply a liner which has been sharpened to a point to your natural lip line. If you want a fuller lip look, apply the liner just outside the natural lip line. For thinner lips, apply it just to the inside of your natural lip line. Ensure that you follow the curve of your lips evenly on both sides.
- Check your work by standing back from the mirror to ensure everything looks even. Apply your lipstick to your lips, staying inside the lines you created with the liner.
