When you have children, it’s more important than ever to have first aid kit and medical basics on hand at all times. Here are a few things no parent’s medicine cupboard should be without:
Children’s paracetamol or ibuprofen liquid pain and fever medication
A digital thermometer
Calamine lotion or a topical anti histamine designed for insect bites (make sure it’s child safe)
Petroleum jelly
Rubbing alcohol or antiseptic liquid to disinfect tweezers, thermometers and other tools
An anti-bacterial lotion or ointment for scrapes and abrasions
Tweezers, safety scissors for nails and ordinary scissors
Child friendly insect repellent and sun screen lotions
A saline solution and a nasal aspirator
Adhesive bandages in a variety of sizes
Gauze pads and bandages in a variety of sizes
Medical adhesive tape for keeping dressings in place
Swabs and sterile cotton balls
A moisturising cream
Liquid soap that’s mild and gentle
A dropper, medicine spoon or syringe for measuring and administering medicines
Tongue depressors
A heating pad, as well as a hot water bottle and an ice pack
Rehydrating solution sachets
A small torch, to check ears, noses, throats and eyes
A first aid manual (look for one specifically written with children in mind)
