A new technological development may signal the end of bed time battles between parents and their children.

Russ Dawson, from American bed maker Sleep Number, spoke to the BBC regarding the development of an app- connected bed which is designed to track and record a child's sleep pattern.

Russ acknowledged the struggle many children have settling down for the night, saying: "We know that if kids are getting a great night's sleep they will be better tomorrow. So what we're doing is using our sleep IQ dashboard to really see how our whole family is sleeping, especially our kids."

Including incentives and awards within the app to encourage children to get into bed, Russ then goes on to explain how the app works, saying "A parent uses Sleep IQ to see how [their child] is sleeping."

Russ explained that the app monitors how restful or restless the child's sleep is and believes parents will be able to use this information over time to understand the impact these measurements have on their child's sleep and behaviour.

Russ argues that standalone devices are not as efficient because individuals have to remember to wear them and turn them on, saying: "We know that our kids are growing over time and having information to be able to grow with them versus just providing one product that may not be able to have as many changes for the kids over time [is preferable]."

Russ believes that investing in a child's quality of sleep is of the utmost importance.
