According to emerging reports, a woman in her 40s is currently being treated in hospital having sustained injuries during a stabbing incident on a property in the Cooline area of Cobh yesterday morning.

Donna Foster, who works as a beautician in the town, is described as being in a serious but stable condition in Cork University Hospital.

A girl, believed to be in her early teens, was also hospitalised following the violent incident, but later discharged.

It has been established by attending emergency services that both the woman and teenage girl sustained their injuries between 10 and 11 am yesterday morning.

Residents in the community are understandably shaken by the violent incident, with one local woman saying: "Donna is fabulous, an absolutely gorgeous girl. Her family are pillars of the community in every way, shape and form. They are a very community-orientated family."

Expressing her disbelief, the resident continued: "I am so shocked, Donna comes from the most beautiful and respectful family in the town,"

A man aged in his 50s was detained by gardaí and remained in custody at Cobh Garda Station last night for questioning.
