Gardaí have this morning confirmed that they have made an arrest in connection with the death of a toddler in Dublin.

According to a statement released by the Garda Press Office, a woman in her early forties has been arrested. She is currently being detained at Crumlin Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The news follows the confirmation of the victim’s name. Omar Omran, aged three, died from stab wounds. He was discovered in his home, in the Riverside complex, in Popple Park, Kimmage, on Monday evening.

The child’s mother, Maha Al-Adheem, was also found to have sustained stab wounds. The 42-year-old was rushed to St James’ Hospital, where she was treated for ‘serious injuries’.

While few details have been released, a number of sources living in the neighbourhood have described hearing ‘shouting, banging and screaming’ on the evening of the incident.

Gardaí are said to be treating the incident as a ‘personal tragedy’, and are handling it with ‘sensitivity’.

While an arrest has been made, Gardaí are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information that could help them with their investigation has been asked to contact Crumlin Garda Station on 01 666 6200. Alternatively, you can contact your local station.

We are thinking of all those touched by this tragedy.
